What KeyTor does

Torrefaction heats waste to between 200 and 350 °C in a controlled, low-oxygen environment. Moisture and volatile compounds leave; what remains is dry, brittle and carbon-dense. The result handles and grinds like coal, which is what allows it to move through equipment that was designed for coal.

KeyTor is the continuous version of that process. Feedstock moves through the reactor without stopping, rather than being cooked in discrete loads. Two things follow from that. Output quality is steadier, because conditions do not swing between the start and end of a batch. And the plant can be engineered to run 6,000 or more hours a year, because it is not repeatedly heating and cooling.

What goes in, and what comes out

KeyTor takes four feedstock families, in any combination. Energy content of the output depends substantially on which:

Sludge sits at the bottom of that range because it arrives wet and more of the input energy goes into drying it. Woody biomass has the widest spread because species and moisture vary considerably.

What is KeyTor?

KeyTor is Keystone Energy's continuous torrefaction technology. It converts municipal solid waste, refuse derived fuel, biomass and sewage treatment plant sludge into torrefied solid fuel, and is the subject of Indian patent applications 202211023704 and 202211023710.

What makes KeyTor continuous rather than batch?

Feedstock moves through the reactor without stopping, rather than being processed in discrete loads. This gives steadier output quality and allows the plant to be engineered for 6,000 or more operating hours a year.

What plant sizes does KeyTor support?

Modular configurations from 50 to 1,000 tonnes per day of input. Delivered plants range from a 50 TPD STP sludge pilot for Delhi Jal Board to a 500 TPD municipal solid waste plant for NTPC in Gorakhpur.

What feedstocks can KeyTor process?
